Messages with large attachments are not received at the destination or are bounced due to message size limits Print

Problem Description

  • You're sending an email with an attachment over 50MB in size
  • The message is not received OR you receive a bounce indicating the message is too large

Problem Resolution

Email providers all limit message file sizes, both for sending and receiving. The standard file size limits you'll see are between 25 and 50MB for attachments. Our limit is 50MB which matches the largest message size limit from common providers like Google and Microsoft.

Even if we were to raise that limit to 100MB or 150MB, the recipients wouldn't be able to receive the message as their mail service would either drop or bounce it for being too large.

For this to work, instead of attaching the large file, you'll need to use a cloud storage service to send secure access links to the recipients. Examples: Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, etc.
