Google Search Console says: Pages aren't indexed Print

  • 0

Problem Description

Google Search Console shows some pages that aren't indexed and says "Why aren't pages indexed?"

You're concerned pages aren't being looked at by Google.

Problem Resolution

For the most part, it's entirely normal to have messages like that in Google Search Console. Examples:

  • 404 errors would be if you've removed any posts/pages and not set up a redirect for them.
  • Page with redirect would be any of those that you did set up a redirect for, or countless other reasons why your site may redirect.
  • Pages with a noindex tag are specifically (and hopefully intentionally) excluded - and there's quite often good reasons for that.
  • Pages with "other 4xx errors" are likely forbidden locations (e.g. your wordpress admin area) that Google tried to go to but was turned away.

Unless you're receiving specific messages about pages you know should be indexed, this info can be ignored.

If you are seeing messages about pages that should be indexed, you'll want to look into why those pages are giving the specific error Search Console identifies.
