I have a domain alias and wish to send email from the aliased domain Print

Problem Description

  • You have a domain and an alias for that domain. Example: websavershosting.ca aliased to websavers.ca.
  • In Plesk, the option to also alias mail is enabled in Plesk.
  • You want to send emails from an email account using the alias domain. Example: have an email address like john [@] websavers.ca which you can access normally, but you wish to send an email from john [@] websavershosting.ca.

Problem Resolution

There is no way to directly send email from the aliased domain, however you can create alternative identities in our webmail software to make this happen. Here's how:
  1. Log in to webmail
  2. Choose the profile button in the upper right corner, then settings
  3. Choose Accounts then "Add an Identity"
  4. Create the identity with the email address you want to send from and press Add (Example: john [@] websavershosting.ca)
  5. Go back to your list of messages and reply to the one you wish to reply to
  6. At the top where it shows who it's coming from, click on your name/email address and change the identity to the newly created identity

IMPORTANT: You may run into issues with outgoing messages not arriving at their destination when sending in this manner because the secondary domain will not support mail authentication records like SPF and DKIM. If you must send messages from the aliased domain regularly, it's strongly recommended to disable mail aliasing (an option under the hosting settings) and then set up the email accounts within Plesk directly under that domain.
