How do I forward a domain to another that is hosted on the same account? Print

  • 1

Problem Description

  • You would like to configure a domain to forward to another
  • Both domains are already hosted under the same account

Typically this is required when you have registered the same domain with a variety of TLDs (or suffixes). For example let's say you registered yourdomain.com and yourdomain.org and you have your hosting all set up and working with yourdomain.com. You want to have yourdomain.org bring the user to yourdomain.com automatically.

Problem Resolution

Please see our guide on how to create a redirect in Plesk for more info on how to make this happen.

If the domain you would like to forward to another domain is currently your primary domain in Plesk, you will not be able to remove it and add it as an alias. In this instance you have two options:

  1. Redirect with Domain Forwarding: With this option the domain doesn't need to be removed, but it also won't alias email accounts, if your email is hosted within Plesk. To do this follow the steps under "Redirect with Domain Forwarding" in the article linked above
  2. Re-Arrange Domain Structure: We consider this a more comprehensive solution as it ensures your account's domain structure is easier to understand in that having a primary domain that only forwards to another is a bit odd. Here's how to switch your primary domain to another domain that is already hosted under the same subscription.
