How to change your web root path on disk in Plesk Print

  • 0

Problem Description

  • You wish to change your website's web root path on disk
  • A Plesk temporary domain was used to build your website, now that it's live the path on disk still shows the temp domain and you wish to rename it

Problem Resolution

  1. Go to the Plesk file manager and rename the directory to what you'd like it to be (this moves the files)
  2. Go to the domain's "hosting settings" (under Hosting & DNS) and change the directory there as well (this informs Plesk of the change in step 1)
  3. Wait a few minutes (should be 1-2, may be as many as 5) for the server to detect the changes and respond accordingly.
  4. Go to the site to confirm it's loading fine. If it is not, check the web server error logs to find the cause and a resolution

Common Issues

  • WordFence: If you're using WordPress with WordFence, check the file .user.ini (starts with a dot) to see if the path you changed has been updated within this file. If you see references to the old path, change it to the new one and save the file
