How do I obtain IPv6 addresses? Print

  • 1

To obtain IPv6 addresses for your VPS, simply create a ticket requesting the number of IPv6 addresses you would like.

WARNING: IPv6 addresses are not failover/portable. This means when your VPS is moved between hardware nodes, the IPv6 addresses cannot come with it. When this occurs, we will assign you new addresses and, if you have a VPS with Hands-On Support, we will also update these addresses in Plesk for you.

Any sites with DNS not hosted on the server itself will need to be manually updated with the new IPv6 address(es).

If you only have IPv4 addresses, when we re-balance it's totally seamless and you might notice at most a 2 minute blip. When you use IPv6 addresses, there is likely to be anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours of downtime for those accessing sites over IPv6 addresses as the DNS catches up to the new IPv6 address.

We re-balance our nodes roughly a couple times a year, meaning your VPS is likely to be moved fairly regularly.
