Why do I get a 404 Not Found error? Print

  • 3

A 404 error means the browser is trying to access a file that does not exist.

First, make sure the spelling of the address is accurate. Our servers are case sensitive, so spelling must include any capital letters. For example, uploading the file MyPic.JPG will require that you use

[address]/MyPic.JPG and NOT mypic.jpg or MyPic.jpg. This also goes for any directories created, it is best practice to only create directories with no spaces and all lowercase letters. Many prefer to use dashes or underscores in place of a space.

If all your files are coming up with 404's, then you have misspelled the address or the files have been uploaded to the wrong directory.

In order for your files to be viewable to the web they need to be in the "httpdocs" directory (or the "httpsdocs" directory when using the secure server).
