Problem Description
When sending messages using the Outlook app, occasionally a message will get stuck in the Outbox and not actually send for up to an hour.
Problem Resolution
When a message is stuck in the outbox that typically means Outlook is not able to submit the message to the mail server. The reason for this could be anything from an error in the way Outlook generated the message, corrupt attachments, or a problem with your Internet provider blocking the connection. There's not always one obvious fix for this issue and the solution can range from resolving network connectivity issues to editing the system registry.
Here's a few ways to help resolve this:
- Please attempt each of the resolutions described in Microsoft's troubleshooting guide for Outlook: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/outlook-email-stuck-5c945f98-415e-58f2-8476-b76e59dfd2e3
- In the event those solutions do not help, the Windows Club has some additional steps that can help resolve this issue: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/outlook-email-stays-outbox
- Check the Outlook Send/Receive dialog/window for errors. Here's how:
- On the Quick Access Toolbar, click the Send/Receive All Folders button (or press F9)
- If you use the Simplified ribbon: on the Home tab, click the Send/Receive All Folders button (if you don't see it on the ribbon, click the More commands button - three points to the very right of the ribbon buttons).
On the Send / Receive tab, click the Send/Receive All Folders or Send All button - If you use the Classic ribbon: on the Home tab, in the Send/Receive group, click the Send/Receive All Folders button. On the Send / Receive tab, in the Send & Receive group, click the Send/Receive All Folders or Send All button
The Send/Receive dialog should provide you with an indication as to what Outlook is doing that might be preventing it from sending the message in your Outbox. Providing us with that message could help resolve the problem.
